TAE50122 course guide
The TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training is designed for experienced VET practitioners who want to deepen their expertise, lead quality practice, design stronger learning solutions or mentor other educators. Open the questions below for the essentials.
TAE50122 suits experienced trainers and assessors, instructional and learning designers, senior VET teachers, training managers, RTO leaders and practitioners who support the capability of other educators. It is particularly relevant when your work goes beyond routine delivery and assessment into advanced practice, program design, evaluation, professional development or leadership.
The national entry requirement is that you demonstrate current VET skills and knowledge relevant to the specialisation you choose. TAE40122 is therefore not a universal entry requirement for every applicant. However, some Diploma units have prerequisites commonly completed through a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and many applicants progress from TAE40122 or its predecessor.
Because assessment is workplace-applied, SpecTraining also requires you to be working in, or have suitable access to, an organisation or training environment. We will check your prior credentials, vocational currency, selected specialisation and workplace access before confirming the most appropriate unit pathway.
The qualification contains 12 units: 3 core units and 9 electives. The core develops capability in training and assessment strategy design, training evaluation, and maintaining and enhancing professional practice.
Your elective selection can support one of three nationally recognised specialisations:
SpecTraining will help you select electives that match your current role, evidence opportunities and intended career direction.
Depending on your specialisation, vocational competence and employer requirements, the Diploma can support work such as senior VET teaching, instructional design, eLearning development, training management, educator mentoring and RTO leadership.
Under section 2C of the national Credential Policy, TAE50122 is one of the credentials that can enable a person to provide direction relating to the delivery of TAE training and assessment. The RTO remains responsible for determining appropriate oversight, restrictions and compliance arrangements for the person’s actual role.
Study is delivered through SpecTraining’s supported, self-paced online coaching and mentoring model, so eligible learners can participate from anywhere in Australia. You apply learning to real workplace or business activity and receive access to an experienced TAE coach and mentor.
The typical course duration is 12 to 24 months, depending on your experience, elective pathway, available evidence and study pace. The current total fee is $4,200: a $200 deposit plus $50 per week for 80 weeks, with no interest charges or payment-plan fees.
