The TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set is designed for those looking to work as assessors in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. This skill set equips individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to assess competence, participate in assessment validation, and use nationally recognised training products to meet vocational training needs. It’s suitable for a broad range of professionals within the VET sector, including workplace assessors, training coordinators, and assessors within Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), TAFEs, and private training institutions. Additionally, recent amendments to the Standards for RTOs 2015, effective from March 2024, have expanded eligibility, allowing secondary school teachers with relevant qualifications to attain the TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set to be eligible to train and assess within the VET Sector. This skill set is also a stepping stone towards further qualifications, such as the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, providing a pathway for professional development within the sector.

What Can I Expect On This Course?

TAESS00019 is an assessment-only credential under the 2025 Credential Policy. When vocationally competent, a holder may assess without direction; the skill set does not itself authorise training. It is the successor to TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set.

This skill set is suitable for individuals who are involved in developing the skills of their team. In particular these competencies are identified as essential skills for those engaged in training staff across a number of disciplines.

The course provides opportunities to practice and develop your planning, development and assessing skills during the workshop.

Additional assessment evidence evidence may also be collected from the workplace where or if applicable

Delivery Methods

  1. 5 Day closed cohort delivery/ face-to-face: perfect for groups of trainees who work together in a single workplace. $1397
  2. 5 Day virtual workshop delivery: ideal for remote workers, people with limited transport opportunities, or to simply save time and money. $1397
  3. Self-paced online. Suitable for someone already working within an RTO with access to a typical training workplace for gathering assessment evidence. $997

Note: All public programs are provide in the 5 Day virtual Zoom or MS Teams environment.

Post Course Assessment Support

Assessment support directly from your assessor via telephone and email. The following processes will be applied for students considered to be “at risk”:

  • Development of an individualised Study Management Plan
  • One-on-one tutorials

Learning activities

Presentation of information, interactive discussion, case studies, role plays, group work and reflective practice. Participants are provided with learner’s resources including readings, case studies, assessment tasks and practical projects.

Who is this skill set for?
People with current vocational competence who need to conduct assessment and make assessment judgements in an RTO, workplace or other VET setting. You also need access to a suitable organisation or training environment to complete the required evidence.
What can I do with TAESS00019?
Under section 1B of the 2025 Credential Policy, a suitably vocationally competent holder may conduct assessment without direction. The skill set does not, by itself, authorise training delivery. A holder who also has a secondary teaching qualification may meet the section 1A credential combination, subject to the RTO's role, competence and currency checks.

How is it delivered, and where can it lead?
SpecTraining offers virtual Zoom sessions and face-to-face training for organisational groups. The three units provide credit towards TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and other qualifications that permit these units.
