An important assessment tool, not only from a compliance perspective but also a quality control perspective, is the ‘rules for assessment decision making’. This may include a marking guide for knowledge-test questions, a set of rules for observations, or criteria for product-related projects. Creating an effective set of rules is essential if the RTO wishes to meet both the rules of evidence and principles of assessment, and the RTO standards for quality.
