About Course

This unit focuses on the development and enhancement of assessment practices within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, emphasising the importance of continual learning and leadership. The first section centers on developing one’s own assessment practice. It involves reviewing current research on competency-based assessment, seeking feedback to identify areas for improvement, and actively participating in professional development opportunities. This approach is aimed at enhancing the assessor’s capability and ensuring their practices are aligned with the latest standards and methodologies in VET assessment.

The second part of the unit is dedicated to supporting the development of other VET assessors. This involves interaction with fellow assessors to aid in their professional growth, sharing of assessment practices and information, and identifying their developmental needs. The section also underscores the importance of implementing strategies to build the skills, knowledge, and experience of the assessor group, while modelling ethical and compliant assessment practices. This collaborative approach not only fosters individual growth but also contributes to the collective expertise of the assessor community.

Finally, the unit delves into leading other assessors, a critical role that involves guiding and challenging them to meet organisational, legislative, and regulatory requirements in their assessments. This leadership role includes monitoring and supporting adjustments to assessment processes and instruments to align with the principles of assessment and rules of evidence. It also involves ensuring that assessment outcomes are collated and reported appropriately. The unit concludes with a review of one’s leadership in assessment, seeking feedback from assessors and analysing one’s own practice to identify opportunities for further improvement. This reflective practice is essential for personal growth and maintaining the highest standards in VET assessment leadership.
