The TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set is designed for those looking to work as assessors in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. This skill set equips individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to assess competence, participate in assessment validation, and use nationally recognised training products to meet vocational training needs. It’s suitable for a broad range of professionals within the VET sector, including workplace assessors, training coordinators, and assessors within Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), TAFEs, and private training institutions. Additionally, recent amendments to the Standards for RTOs 2015, effective from March 2024, have expanded eligibility, allowing secondary school teachers with relevant qualifications to attain the TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set to be eligible to train and assess within the VET Sector. This skill set is also a stepping stone towards further qualifications, such as the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, providing a pathway for professional development within the sector

This skill set is suitable for individuals who are involved in developing the skills of their team. In particular these competencies are identified as essential skills for those engaged in training staff across a number of disciplines.

The course provides opportunities to practice and develop your planning, development and assessing skills during the workshop.

Additional assessment evidence evidence may also be collected from the workplace where or if applicable.


Delivery Methods

  1. 5 Day closed cohort delivery/ face-to-face: perfect for groups of trainees who work together in a single workplace.
  2. 5 Day virtual workshop delivery: ideal for remote workers, people with limited transport opportunities, or to simply save time and money. 

Note: All public programs are provide in the 5 Day virtual Zoom or MS Teams environment.

Post Course Assessment Support

Assessment support directly from your assessor via telephone and email.

The following processes will be applied for students considered to be “at risk”:

  • Development of an individualised Study Management Plan
  • One-on-one tutorials

Learning activities

Presentation of information, interactive discussion, case studies, role plays, group work and reflective practice

Participants are provided with learner’s resources including readings, case studies, assessment tasks and practical projects.

After the workshop, you’ll be required to complete any assessment projects not completed during the workshop. All other evidence will be collected during the workshop.

This skill set provides graduates with opportunities for advancement within their workplace. Specifically in the areas of staff development and training.

Completion of this skills set may also provide the graduate with elective units that may be applied towards further study in the field of vocational training and assessment.
