WHAT IS VALIDATION?

What you need to know to participate in an assessment validation

Quick tip

What is the difference between validation and moderation?

  • An assessment tool is validated before, during or after an assessment is run using input from a number of sources. Moderation is one of those sources.
  • Moderation is the activity of assessors and other stakeholders discussing an assessment instrument (or process) to arrive at a better technique.
  • Validation is the formal activity – moderation is an ongoing activity.
